PROMJet
We had to decide how we were going to debug the FPGA bootstrap design.
Fortunately Hamish had been using a PROM emulator, the PROMJet from EmuTec, in his
previous project and this suited our purpose admirably. (Later in the project we would
replace the PROMJet with an in-system programmable ROM (ISPROM), a new product from
Xilinx.) For now, however, the PROMJet made life easy. Normally every time you wish to
change your FPGA design you have to erase an EPROM and burn your new design.
With the PROMJet, you just hook it to the PC, download your new design and test it; much
easier than using an EPROM.

The PROMJet from EmuTec is a development tool for embedded systems.
This Flash and EPROM emulator eliminates the need for programming memory during the
development cycle. It replaces the memory of the system under development allowing the
user to load, examine, modify, view and patch the program code. The PROMJet works with an
IBM PC using the parallel printer port or a TCP/IP Ethernet adapter. The PROMJet has the
same footprint as an EPROM. The target system recognizes the PROMJet just as if it were a
memory chip plugged into the target socket. The PROMJet costs about $800.
